Life's Kinda Like A Picnic

There's always so much hype around Picnic Day in Davis. I finally got around to attending the event. To be honest, the best thing there were the weiner dog races. But with the line 200+ people long I decided to just say hello to the adorable little weiners that didn't make the cut. I will say one thing though, people had some interesting outfits!

It was a bright and sunny day...and I enjoyed people watching but next time I think I'll spend 60% of my time at Record Store Day and 40% at Picnic Day. Or maybe by that time I'll have a weiner dog and have him/her compete in the races!

A deep bow to you! Thanks for stopping by!

Sun Queen: Cool on Hot August Nights

I am completely obsessed with cat eye sunglasses so it is no surprise that I stopped this wonderfully dressed lady. Not to mention the comic book umbrella rhymes so well with her shades. Sunglasses have been historically cool by characters such as The Fonz and Snoopy as Joe Cool

I loved this Sun Queen's in particular because they are two toned with my favorite color: mustard yellow. Mustard yellow is a specifically vintage color such as Tiffany blue.

I asked her what she likes to do for fun and she said " I dance tango with my husband...I'm kind of shy about it but why not!? It's fun!" I really enjoyed her fun presence and it reflected in her clothing.

I love how the texture of her jewelry was abstractly repeated in her rust colored fishnet stockings. It is difficult to make fishnets look great but this color was phenomenal facet of her outfit.

The Courage of 'Davisites'

I really shouldn't bike so fast because my breaks are really getting worn down from stopping every five seconds for another "photo-op". It is soooo worth it though!

It's so motivational right? :P

While I wasn't allowed to "know" what was going on here (they couldn't "say" when I asked them)...I think I will just assume that this is how these three go out on a Friday night. I mean what's your spirit animal? I'm pretty sure mine is a bird of some sort.

I therefore decided to bring out my inner animal when I got home because I want to play too

I decided I am a hummingbird. Nice to meet you.

MONDAY: Freestyle Fashion

My crown can be pesky sometimes. It's knows when I'm actually prepared. Those times that I  hit the pavement with crown in hand to do some street photos it acts as a style repeller. While I didn't have my camera this day, I still found them to be a King and Queen of Fashion. After all, the crown is representative of how unique we all are and I merely put it there as a visual reminder.

This King and Queen rule the pavement.

I personally think you can never go wrong with a button down camp shirt for simple refinement.

I loved his dress pants with skate shoes (super rad!) I felt his skateboard was the icing on the cake. Like clothing, skateboards are like mobile art!

Her simple boho chic accessories and peach vest-cardigan were girly but still skateboard appropriate.  Super cute!

She wanted me to only see this side of the skateboard because the other side was "not as cool".

This DIY Queen made her own bracelets and stacked them! There are power in numbers.

When I got out to "enjoy the sun" like this couple, whether it is reading outside or biking, it always rejuvenates me as I have to spend a lot of my time on my computer. Being out in nature is healing. So go outside today and enjoy the sun!

Street King ♔: The Full Spectrum

I will be the first to admit that I have a color addiction. Therefore, when I saw this quite colorful man with his cool Queen, I couldn't resist walking up to them and asking if they could put down their  In-n-out burgers for just a second so I could capture their fun attires.

When I asked the color King where he attained his outfit, he laughed are responded, "this? this is old, I got in New York ten years ago!" He also mentioned that typically he would never wear his flip-flops with such an outfit. What I love about his outfit is that the color of his top reminds me of a melting popsicle (the kind we used to have as kids) which stirs images of summertime!

The Queen I met was incredibly amiable and I knew at once we would get along because she got her accessories at Forever 21 (who doesn't love Forever?).

The King of color added the peacock feather to his hat because he just "loves peacock feathers."

Most of my favorite Kings and Queens I document are completely on the fly and it's important to know because it just goes to show how interesting Davis can be!

Street Queen♕: Booking It

When I was waiting to cross the crosswalk home, I saw this petite Queen pass me, and I got so excited because some of the best parts of outfits are not necessarily jewelry or clothing. This Queen was reading on the go. (You'll notice she has her fingers holding her place in her book).

I was so honored that she stopped her adventure to let me take some photos of her! I feel that the most unique piece in her outfit is her brown pants. I thought they were vintage but silly me...they are Urban Outfitters pants! I've always been into vintage and I keep forgetting vintage is the new new.

Her outfit inspired me to simultaneously drink coconut milk, read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and listen to Joy Division.

I think this might be because great fashion IS a lifestyle and this Queen reigned the streets.

bɔn‿ivɛːʁ a.k.a Bon Iver

Bon Iver played at Freeborn Hall at UC Davis on Tuesday April 12th. I must say, although I do appreciate his music...he puts on a fantastic show (so for those of you who are totally gaga about his recordings...this show was a special treat!)

Bon Iver

I was mesmerized by the little lights they had on individual stands.  They would alternate colors to echo the psychedelic backgrounds projected onto the hanging material.

Crowd fashion was fun to look at.

When I approached this guy I said "Hi. I really like your mustache. Can I photograph it?" He said "yea", pinched the ends and began to twitch it. ^_^ There was a lot of facial hair at the Bon Iver concert. Lots of beards.

I had Mr. Vernon sign to "The Sun Queen" ;) (front of ticket). I also had the violinist sign (back). He wrote "owner and lover" because I let these wildly starstruck groupies use my pen to have him sign their stuff (owner of pen)....but whats awesome is I got to keep the pen he touched ;P!

Me and these two pretty chicas united over the ever so talented Justin V.

He was signing some pretty kooky stuff like this girls crochet needles. He also signed some body parts,  random pieces of paper and a beer can case.

Overall, it was a superb show and especially after getting signatures it was definitely worth $40.
